The first people of Texas were the Teyas
Indians. As such the Tejas are among the first of nations (first nations) in what is now
North American continent, thus now called the United States. However this was not always
so. the cotenant has been invaded many times by colonial Nations seeking other conquest and
gains. These colonial nations have been Spain, Russia, Mexico, France, England
(United Kingdom), and those of the now Nordic Nations. (click on these for a current
map of such to go to Index 1) From these sprung the Colonies of America now known as the
United States- click here to learn more-Maps- Index 1 (page under construction)
Truth:
We as a people have been called by many names. Some will go unmentioned, the most
popular was that of Tejas, other Tribal Nations all so too have other names as to who
called whom what. it was because of the Spanish, and the French are responsible of how we
were Colonially Named. As you well may know how such occurs and stuck - and are
now known as The Tejas Indians. Which all together is not too bad, considering the other
names which we have been called by other competing Tribal Nations.
Truth:
The first such band and group carried the name Tejas (actually Teyas, the name of
the first chief, a patriarchal name, or name sake of the first peoples of Texas) as
families grow forming larger bands they collectively worked together forming larger
governmental societies. These bands of our peoples evolved into larger organized groups
called Quatrell Tribes and developed together to organize a complex society of government,
thus utilizing a confederation system for the greater benefit of the whole of the nation.
That governmental model still exist today, in a working forum of the Sovereign Nation of
Tejas Indians (SNTI)
Truth:
The Tejas were heavily Missioned people. Christianity appeared in Tejas in the
1500's to the Tejas Indians through acts of the Creator. However we have always claimed
the walk with the father of all that of the Creator. Of such groups that have influenced
The Tribal Nation are that of The Orthodox, of such the first Native American Martyr -
Saint Peter the Allute-and is declared by sainthood. This came with the Russian Colonial
Conquest of North America and that of influence by The Roman Catholic Church- of such of by
conquest of the French and Spanish conquest- and as such the blue woman came to us.
Later on, with the influx of more colonization of the Tejas Traditional Lands came the
Protestants - the Mennonites, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Calvinist- Cambelites-
Churches of Christ- the Church of Christ of Later Day Saints" (Mormon) and as of late the
Pentecostal Church, and charismatic churches of the CGOC, and that of the AG. However

Myth:
All the Atakapans / Tejas are gone now, as they died out or were absorbed
into other tribes in the middle 1800s. It is a shame we know so little
about them - dispelling the myth - taken from a report given by an Tejas child
in Atakapa, on the fact that she is an Atakapa-speaking descendant
of Man on Earth (a Tejas Tribal Elder)
Truth: The Tejas, through the Great Council and Councils of
Quatrells, allowed other Tribal Nations to come and temporarily stay
in our Nation and Sovereign lands. The Tejas hospitality to our neighbors (other tribes)
and for our neighbors as they were in need of food. If relations continued, they would have to join our
confederation
of the council and abide by its law and agree to the collective ways.
of being- see the Great Little Council of Nacogdoches- and The Great
Council of Chiefs
Truth:
The Caddo are just Caddo and are not Atakapa Speaking Peoples as they have
their own language. They were once the Pawnee Nation, and speak the same language. Ther were
also
referred to as Black Pawnee by the French. Due to the close proximity of our
peoples, some time it is tough to tell who is really who. One reason is because the Tejas
are really good at blending in and hiding, the other is keep your friends close. - see
Hide-behinds and garmentdizers- Index 1 / and stories of the Tejas.
Truth:
After a society lives together for several hundred years, they evolve together,
adapting to each others inventions and innovations. Keeping up with the Jones's is
tough enough today but was even harder back then and even more or not ever popular then,
even if it was to survive- how ever the Tejas kept their language and some of their own
customs. The Caddo are not Tejas Indians, yet they were one of the largest members of an
interwoven tri-union confederation of nations- in such which we all belonged.
There were three confederations which were interwoven together but had distinct and
subtle differences; these were the Nacodochebe, Hasinia-(Tejas), and the Caddo. Their
chair, that of the Caddo, sits empty at the Council to this day. We lived with and among them,
and traded with the Caddo for many hundred years - from their arrival to their departure to
Oklahoma.
Truth: The Matron Saint of the Tejas Indians - The Blue Woman - The Blue Water Woman of Tejas -
St. Maria de Jesus de Agreda los Azule les augua Dios le Santos, appeared to the Chiefs of the Tejas Indians
and baptized over 30,000. tribal members in a sacred pond by a sacred grove in East Texas. It is said that she
spoke to the rock in the ground by the Sacred grove and it brought fourth a spring of waters which are still
flowing today. She, through the Creator is credited with 5 miracles and still appears to those Tejas which are in
battle or in need of life giving waters, and those which are in need of being delivered to safety. The last sightings
of her was in Katrina, and Rita as well as in Iraq with some of the AT Braves serving in the USN, and USMC.
A young sergeant of the USMC said she appeared to him in the night and spoke to him in Atakapa. She
touched his canteen and it never ran out of water nor did it ever get over 65 degrees.
